Valentine’s Day for kids? It is the day of romance. A day for your spouse or partner. A day to remember the one you love. But what about your kids? The kids will, no doubt, want to share their love too.
Many years ago, when my boys were young, we had the typical sibling fighting, rivalry and vying for parental attention. Every opportunity was taken to teach the boys that brothers have to be best friends. Being the day of love, Valentine’s Day presented itself as one of those opportunities. And a new family tradition was born.

One Simple Valentine’s Day Tradition to help build Family Relationships
It was important to us that our children were best friends. We needed to cultivate a sense of appreciation and gratitude between them. Valentine’s Day was the perfect day to do this.
First, we would make cards. We each made a card for ourselves. Dad too if he was home, otherwise, we would make one for him. It was fun to sit together and chat. Doing a calm activity together often opened doors to meaningful conversations and opportunities to share (glue, scissors, pencils, etc). The only thing we would write inside the card was:
I love [insert your name here] because……………….
Once the cards were made we would pass them around and write what it is you love about the owner of the card. If Dad was not home, we would wait.
It was that simple!
