Perhaps you…..

  • are considering homeschooling, but the thought of teaching AND socialising your children is daunting.
  • don’t know how to find the time necessary to homeschool your children.
  • need strategies on how to keep the kids engaged in learning.
  • desire better family relationships.

No matter where you are in your homeschool journey you do know ONE THING – you want a better approach to education!

You know there is a better way, but you just don’t know how to make it work. You feel stuck, overwhelmed, and oh, so guilty that you are failing your family!

Trust me, I’ve been there!

Which brings me to my core beliefs…….

  • I believe that all children are born with natural gifts, talents, and strengths. I’ll share how I used my children’s strengths and passions to drive their learning.
  • I believe that parents should, at the very least, consider home education. It is my goal to facilitate the decision by offering social programs, connections, and community.
  • I believe home education solidifies family values and helps build family relationships. I am determined to give you the tools you need to support your home education journey.

If you believe home education is the right choice for your family, I believe we can work together to make it a reality.

about me karren's family

Hi, I’m Karren!

I created No Limits Active Lifestyle to be a community of time-poor parents all working towards the same thing – to provide the best learning environment for their children. I support mums who support their home educated family through quality, social programs along with passionate, honest and positive advice – straight from the heart

My Story

It was always my dream to send my children to the best private school we could afford. I pictured my son looking so handsome in his uniform, and sending him off to his first day of school. Before we could sign him up my bubble burst!

My son has ADHD. Without Ritalin, he could not be enrolled in school. I knew then that my son would never truly fit in at school under those circumstances and the drugs would extinguish the fire burning in his soul. ADHD is FOREVER! I had to find a way to teach him not only how to live with who he is, but to thrive. I had to teach him to turn his energy into personal drive and passion. The road ahead of me was not easy – it was downright HARD!

So what did I do?

There had to be a better way, so the research began. It was around this time a friend suggested home education and straight away I knew this was our answer.

This was 2005 and home education options were limited. I was working part-time in our family business with a 2-year-old and a hyperactive 4-year-old who was desperately ready to learn “schoolwork”. Besides his pre-existing food allergies, we were working on diet, routine, and discipline to control the ADHD.

Family and friends thought I was crazy and would permanently damage my children. I did not have the confidence to create my child’s academic program as I was struggling with family life. I turned to the first Distance Education program I could find.

While there are many families who love and thrive on this particular program, I have to say it did not work for us. I lasted 3 years and those years, academically speaking, were not pretty! I was pregnant and I had had enough!

But we learned. I learned. I learned that:

  • tied to a desk, filling in workbooks is unpleasant for active boys,
  • little boys want to run around and play. Little boys should run around and play,
  • I can teach my children the same lessons through active play, conversation and daily living,
  • my boys were becoming best friends,
  • sibling rivalry and fighting are teachable moments,
  • academics is only a small part of a child’s education,
  • my children, though enjoy the same games and activities were developing into 2 very unique individuals that require different parental and teaching methodologies,
  • I did not want to miss my child’s ah-ha moments,
  • I do not need a teaching degree to educate my children.
  • helping children understand who they are and how they can develop their unique gifts, talents, and strengths was my role as their mother,
  • providing your children with social outlets is a lot of work, and
  • building family relationships was the most important thing to us.

Fast forward 15 years and I have a third son. Yes, another on the ADHD spectrum, only this time I was prepared! My oldest 2 have completed 12 years of school at home and moved on. One is pursuing his dream career, the other is studying a double university degree, both continue to compete in their chosen sport at state, national and one at international level. My youngest is working through his first year of high school. So, yes, home education has been successful for us.

My methodologies in delivering our academic program have changed throughout the years and I will share that story soon.

Go on ask – I know you want to……………

What about SOCIALISATION?

It is true, home educated children do excel in this area, but it doesn’t just happen. We don’t have access to a whole schoolyard of similar aged children. It takes time and effort on your behalf. Friendships take time and commitment to develop. It is a lot of work.

Over the years I have done it all: organised large activity groups, developed adventure days, created single events, and ongoing term activities.

Over time I discovered a love of supporting families in their home education journey. In 2017, with 2 homeschool friends, I continued to support home educators via our Homeschool 4 Real conferences plus Creation Ministry workshop. Through No Limits Active Lifestyle, I continue to support families with my blog and homeschool active social programs.

If you have specific questions or just want to learn more, send me a message or connect on Facebook. I am always up for a chat – remember I live in a house full of boys…….
